Our Control Centre operates at the heart of the distribution network, constantly monitoring the state of the network using advanced systems. Our team of Control Officers is responsible for:

Eastern Cape Wind Farms

We will connect your wind farm to our East London Control Centre and monitor & manage your electrical network 24/7, 365 days a year. Our Control Officers will issue operating instructions to your field operators when working on the electrical equipment, co-ordinate planned outages and manage unplanned outages; and isolate faults and advise on optimal switching points to ensure continuity of supply. Our Control Centre will ensure the:

  • Co-ordination and management of maintenance and work performed on your network
  • Compliance with your electricity generation license requirements issued by NERSA
  • Compliance with High Voltage Regulations and the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Protect human life by ensuring compliance to safety standards and procedures
  • Protect equipment by ensuring correct operating procedures are followed
  • Minimise losses and ensure continuity of supply

EMC’s Electrical Network Operations and Control Centre manages the day-to-day operations of electrical distribution networks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to ensure reliable and constant power delivery to household and business consumers. Utilising state of the art technology and integrated systems, our highly skilled and experienced Controllers monitor the state of the network in real time, manage planned and unplanned outages, implement load shedding strategies and issue operating instructions to Field Operators.

EMC operates a multi-lingual Customer Care Centre that handles over 15 000 enquiries per month. We have implemented intelligent systems that enable our trained Agents to efficiently handle all electricity enquiries; and dispatch the nearest Operators to attend to faults on the network.

EMC
Our Safety & Training Department is responsible for HV Regulations theoretical & practical training for all Authorised Operators and Responsible Persons. This department has documented and implemented all HV Regulation Procedures and Protocols, such as HV Operating Regulations, Network Labelling Standards, Incident Reporting, Issuing of High Voltage Keys, Protective Clothing, etc. They are also tasked with ensuring compliance to the relevant Safety Regulations by all persons working on the network.
